HELLO

Welcome, welcome, welcome..

If you’re reading this there’s a good chance we’re acquainted and I’ve already mentioned the blog to you (if not and you’re just digging the far reaches of the web, big ups to you), and you’ll probably have some idea what it’s about, but if not, read on!

There’s no specific format or genres, the focus is just on sharing tunes iniiiiiit. I’m no journalist but I’ll do my best to accompany these with somewhat coherent write-ups and hopefully put you onto some amazing new (& old) producers, labels, mixes, pan-pipe players, etc etc etc. My aim was to have a good selection of posts pre-written so I could follow this one up with a new post each day and give you some idea of the types of things you’ll find from here on out. But I’ve dithered long enough, and with the new dawn that is the first bank holiday of the year, now feels like the right time. So I’ll start as I mean to go on, which is reliably haphazardly.

It’s only right I share something, so I’ll go with something I have been rinsing recently. Admittedly, the reason this jumped out at me is down to the shared name, but I was delighted to realise that this Tony was actually the founding member of Hot Chocolate, and even more delighted upon first listen. It’s one of those early adaptations of an 808, intersecting Electro, Funk & Soul, the result is a mad, deep, dubbed-out, but still soulful, masterpiece of an experiment. This is what it’s all about for me: mistaking someone for someone else, realising who they actually are, and then finding a tune that is so far detached from what your concept of their music was.

Psychemagic included it on their Ritual Chants comp from a few years ago, which feels like a fitting start for the blog in so much as it will be the first of many already unearthed gems I’ll share on here, which I’ll also probably never own.

Peace

S
