Some raw 90s Hip-Hop biz here. It seems it doesn’t matter how much time goes by, the sound still hits 30 years on..
It’s all about the vibe of the B-side on this one, NY’s DJ Shok cutting his teeth into production with one of his earliest productions (he would later go on to produce/engineer for the Ruff Ryders label and their affiliated artists, most notably DMX). It’s a killer instrumental which layers the riff from the beginning of Bob James - I Feel A Song (In My Heart) over a (cliché alert) contemplative chord progression, which arguably doesn’t require anyone on top. Fortunately the Parallax duo (Rappers Ei8ghtrak & The Hermit) more than do it justice with a free flowing back and forth on the vocal - you might struggle to detect the hate, but you can definitely detect the struggle.
It's probably fair to say this was the artists Magnum Opus, there's not much else released by either of them after this one, but like many gems, it all just adds to the mystique..
